Tobacco: A Danger in Disguise

Sehubungan dengan peringatan Hari Tanpa Tembakau Sedunia 2006 yang jatuh pada tanggal 31 Mei 2006, maka kami, penulis blog yang peduli dengan masalah ini, bermaksud untuk memperingatkan kita semua akan bahaya merokok.

1. Tembakau BERBAHAYA DALAM BENTUK APAPUN.

Rokok, rokok pipa, bidi, kretek, rokok beraroma cengkeh, snus, snuff, rokok tanpa asap, cerutu… semuanya berbahaya.

2. Tembakau BERBAHAYA DALAM BENTUK SAMARAN APAPUN.

Mild, light, low tar, full flavor, fruit flavored, chocolate flavored, natural, additive-free, organic cigarette, PREPS (Potentially Reduced-Exposure Products), harm-reduced… semuanya berbahaya. Label-label tersebut TIDAK menunjukkan bahwa produk-produk yang dimaksud lebih aman dibandingkan produk lain tanpa label-label tersebut.

3. Kami menuntut Pemerintah Republik Indonesia untuk bertindak.

Pemerintah harus sesegera mungkin meratifikasi WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) demi kesehatan penerus bangsa. Indonesia adalah satu-satunya negara di Asia yang belum menandatangani perjanjian internasional ini.

In commemoration of World’s No Tobacco Day 2006 on 31st May, we intend to warn all of you about the danger of smoking (which most of you -I’m pretty sure- already know)

1. Tobacco is DANGEROUS IN ANY FORM.

Cigarette, cigar, pipe, clove flavored, snuff, non-smoke cigarette, all of them are dangerous.

2. Tobacco is DANGEROUS IN ANY DISGUISE.

Mild, light, low tar, full flavor, fruit flavored, chocolate flavored, natural, additive-free, organic cigarette, PREPS (Potentially Reduced-Exposure Products), harm-reduced… ALL are dangerous. Those labels do NOT tell you that the products are safer than others that are not labelled.

3. We demand action from the government of Republic of Indonesia.

The government HAS TO ratify WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) for the sake of young generation’s health. Indonesia is the only country left in Asia who has not signed the international treaty.
